Koaso Farm / Koaso Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot 2022 Timeless Elegance (Red) 750ml

The 2022 vintage marks the first time in our ninth year since founding that we have produced both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged in barrels.
The 2022 season in Koaso (Ueda City) experienced a hot summer for the first time in five years since 2018. After a rainy period until summer, rainfall was relatively low from August onward (935 mm/year in the city), and the sunlight, especially in the latter half, was sufficient, allowing the grapes to ripen in excellent condition.
Starting in 2022, we entrusted the red wine production to Cave Hatano in Tōmi City. Hatano-san’s well-regarded elegant use of barrels, combined with ripe Merlot and Cabernet, results in a deep dark cherry color, a restrained yet concentrated cassis aroma, and a rich sweetness on the palate balanced by smooth acidity, fine velvety tannins, and a long finish. This modern style pairs well with French and Japanese cuisine, is easy to drink, yet has solid alcohol content and body. This is the first barrel-aged wine from Koaso, named after both our company and the vineyard’s address, released under the name “Koaso.” The label follows the same concept as the stainless steel series “Rivers,” with colors matching the 2022 wine composition and the title “Timeless Elegance” to express the vintage’s characteristics.
It is already enjoyable now but is crafted to gain more smoothness over the next five years.
