Using Chardonnay from a contracted vineyard located on the northern side of the cool climate Wairau Valley in Marlborough. The soil is alluvial with many large stones covering the silt loam, and the 25-year-old Chardonnay vines have stabilized vigor and yield, allowing for the harvest of excellent grapes.
After hand-picking, the grapes are pressed whole cluster. Fermentation takes place in French oak (16% new barrels), followed by malolactic fermentation and regular batonnage, with 10 months of barrel aging.
The glass overflows with aromas harmonizing rich peach, apricot, orange peel, and white flowers with nuances of butter and vanilla. A superb finish balanced with the lively acidity unique to cool regions and the complex flavors derived from stone fruits and oak barrels!
