In 2020, we reclaimed abandoned farmland in Nirei, Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, and established a 1.8-hectare vineyard. This location, surrounded by mountains, is situated at an altitude of 600 meters with a 12% slope and well-drained calcareous soil, offering a panoramic view of the Northern Shinano Five Mountains. With the support of the local community and administration, we were finally able to realize grape cultivation in our long-awaited own vineyard.
In the spring of 2021, we planted my most beloved Italian variety Aglianico, as well as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Then, in 2023, blessed with good weather, we were able to welcome our first harvest. However, due to the small yield and the fact that it did not reach barrel aging, the Chardonnay released this time delivers its original flavor without the embellishment of barrel aging.
