Bucci has been continuing to produce at the Bailey A of Masato Suzuki, the former president of the Ueyama Wine Grape Production Association, with whom we started our relationship in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
Everyone in the union has a high level of awareness and is doing a wonderful job, but among them, Mr. Suzuki's Bailey A short-pointed style, which brings everyone together, was remarkable.
The second year, 2022, was a very difficult year, but the third year, 2023, was influenced by the extreme heat. Although the yield itself was not high, the quality was very good, with grapes that had a high level of ripeness. Additionally, this vintage marks the succession to Hayato, the son, which has brought even more enthusiasm to the year. Many producers in Kamiyama are successors in their 40s, like the winemaker Meguro, and I believe they have a greater awareness of wine, allowing for long-term mutual growth. The 2024 vintage is also approaching harvest, and even at this point, the quality is looking even more promising. The grapes are already good, but I can't take my eyes off the quality of the wines from the producers in Kamiyama in the future. For this reason, the barrel aging period has been getting longer each year, and this Bucci was just bottled in early September. Honestly, I think it will take a few years for the very dry 2023 to soften, but it will be released in a state where we can already catch a glimpse of its potential. I hope you enjoy the true essence of Berry A, now under Hayato's leadership.
