Haskap is a plant of the honeysuckle family, known in Japanese as "Kuronomiuuguisukagura." In Japan, it grows naturally in Hokkaido and parts of the subalpine zone of Honshu, particularly in the Yufutsu Plain, which stretches from the western part of New Chitose Airport to Tomakomai and Mukawa Town, as well as along the Pacific coast of Hidaka and Tokachi. It is widely distributed in the world, including Siberia, China, and the Korean Peninsula, but it is only cultivated commercially in Hokkaido, Japan. It has recently gained particular popularity as a specialty fruit of Hokkaido.
