Haskap is a plant of the honeysuckle family, known in Japanese as Kuronomiwuguisukagura. In Japan, it grows wild in Hokkaido and parts of the subalpine zone of Honshu. In Hokkaido, it is especially found in the Yufutsu Plain stretching from the west of New Chitose Airport to Tomakomai and Mukawa Town, as well as along the Pacific coast of Hidaka and Tokachi. Worldwide, it is widely distributed in Siberia, China, and the Korean Peninsula, but commercially cultivated has only been done in Hokkaido, Japan. It is a fruit that has recently gained particular popularity as a specialty fruit of Hokkaido.
