Genki Iwasaki / Muscat Bailey A 2024 (Red) 750ml
Regular Price ¥5,500/
tax included
Ohira Town, Tochigi City, has been a grape-producing region since the Meiji era.
Genki Iwasaki completed seven years of training in Burgundy, became a nationally certified French winemaker (oenologist), and returned to his hometown, Ohira Town, Tochigi City, in July 2024.
This wine is the first vintage made in Japan using 1.2 tons of Muscat Bailey A purchased from a table grape farmer in Ohira Town.
The year 2024 was extremely hot, and especially in August, when the Muscat Bailey A reached veraison, we recorded 352mm of rainfall in the month, making grape maturation very difficult. Although the weather improved in September, the sugar content did not fully rise, and the coloring was insufficient. To avoid further acid decline, animal damage, bird damage, and disease spread, we harvested on September 27 and October 1.
We wanted to make a more fruity and well-structured Muscat Bailey A, but we have to say we couldn't fully compensate for the low ripeness of the grapes, resulting in a lighter finish.
It was not an easy first vintage in Japan, but many challenges for the following years became clear, and several solutions for quality improvement are already prepared. We hope that people who say, "Genki Iwasaki's first year was like this," will enjoy drinking this first vintage 2024 with a smile.
