In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the wine production volume of various wineries decreased, leading to a reduction in the amount of grapes purchased from growers by wineries.
The 2020 Merlot in Rivers' Partner's Cuvee series was made by purchasing grapes to support grape growers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Sato of Kakuto Farm, who cultivated these grapes, had 40 years of experience as a contracted grower for a major manufacturer and was an award-winning cultivator in competitions. Unfortunately, after cultivating this vintage, he passed away, much to everyone's regret. This wine is not only a relief effort during the pandemic but also the final work of a genius cultivator.
This Merlot showcases the characteristic fruitiness and sweetness of Merlot, with a rich body that retains tannins and acidity. It is produced in stainless steel tanks without using barrels. The subtle roasted flavor from oak chips creates a mild balance between tannins and fruitiness, deepening in taste with each sip. For 2020, grapes from Kakuto Farm, renowned for grape cultivation in Nagano, are used. Kakuto Farm, which has accepted trainees for many years and supplies grapes not only to Nagano but also to famous wineries nationwide, produces a Merlot with a solid body.
