"Steuben" is not often enjoyed on its own.
There are few producers cultivating on the mountain, and there are only a handful of wines based mainly on Steuben in the entire Japanese wine industry.
This time, I received that rare Steuben from my agricultural and wine colleague, Mr. Morishita, and turned it into wine.
This year's Steuben had a high sugar content and showed great promise, but just before the harvest, we faced a difficult situation with the heaviest rainfall of the season, causing the thin-skinned Steuben to crack.
Even in such circumstances, we carefully selected and harvested the fruits.
This wine, with its unique aroma and flavor characteristic of the Labrusca variety, can sometimes be mistaken for MBA or Delaware in blind tastings, but it offers a taste that strongly conveys the individuality of Steuben.
It has a finish where the fresh fruitiness is harmonized with a moderate acidity.
