Cave d'Occhi / Albariño 2024 (White) 750ml
Regular price ¥6,490The Cepage series aims to faithfully express the grape variety’s character and terroir.
Albariño is synonymous with Cavedo Cicci.
In wine regions, grapes suited to the land are those that resist disease (require little care), produce high yields, and possess aromas and flavors unique to that location.
Albariño, known as the "wine of the sea" in Spain's Rías Baixas, is grown in soils with good drainage near the sea, with annual rainfall similar to Niigata (around 1800mm in both regions).
Our Albariño grown in sandy soil requires almost no care (less than a quarter of the effort compared to difficult varieties like Chenin Blanc or Riesling), yields abundantly, and reveals aromas of jasmine and Dong Ding oolong unique to our land.
In 2024, Niigata City enjoyed weather with only 53mm of rainfall in August, far below the average of 146.9mm over the past 10 years, making it an excellent vintage for white grape varieties.
The flavor features elegant perfume-like aromas of jasmine, Dong Ding oolong tea, and white peach, with hints of dill, clove, and vanilla in the background.
On the palate, the varietal acidity and bitterness, along with rich fruit, are pleasant, and combined with noble aromas, the finish is long and fragrant.
It has a delicate flavor with the lightness of sandy soil, yet it does not feel thin.
To faithfully express the wonderful varietal character and terroir, it is simply vinified using only stainless steel tanks.
Additionally, this year a portion was fermented with natural yeast. The addition of the rich mid-palate from the natural yeast has resulted in a wine with a noticeably larger scale than before.
Please enjoy Albariño, the true essence of sandy soil terroir.
