Pinot Gris is a variety grown in places like Alsace in France, Italy, and New Zealand, and it prefers cool climates. At Villa d'Est, it is cultivated in vineyards around 920m elevation.
“Gri” means gray in French, and Pinot Gris has a pinkish-gray skin. When making wine, it is often made into white wine by limiting extraction from the skins, but there is also a method to extract components from the skins to produce rosé (orange) wine.
