Okayama Wine Valley / QAUGURA Sangiovese 2020 (Red) 750ml
Regular Price ¥5,500This red wine is primarily made from the Italian grape variety Sangiovese, combined with another Italian variety, Nebbiolo. The grapes are carefully cultivated using the so-called "Okayama method" of trellising, which is known for producing high-quality table grapes, in two vineyards: one in the rocky, limestone-laden wasteland of the Miyano Pass, and the other on the south-facing slopes of the Oe vineyard.
The winemaking is simple, similar to white wine, with a focus on maintaining standards and maximizing the individuality of the grapes. By adding Nebbiolo, the color becomes slightly brighter, resulting in a wine that has noticeable tannins and smoothness. It is aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels from Tronçais, and while the attack is gentle, I believe you will enjoy the lingering aromas that open up over time.
The name 'QAUGURA' is a coined term that combines the traditional culture of Bichu Kagura, which is rooted in this land, with the Italian word 'augura' (hope). The strength of the Bichu Kagura dance is expressed on the label, infused into the taste of the wine.
