Okayama Wine Valley / QAUGURA Sangiovese 2020 (Red) 750ml
Regular Price ¥5,500This red wine mainly uses the Italian grape variety Sangiovese, combined with the Italian variety Nebbiolo. The grapes are carefully grown using the so-called "Okayama method" of trellis cultivation, a cultivation and production management technique that produces high-quality table grapes that Okayama is proud of, in two vineyards: the Miyano Pass vineyard, reclaimed from a rocky, limestone-strewn wasteland, and the old Sakae vineyard, a south-facing slope.
The winemaking is simple and standard, just like with white wine, aiming to bring out the maximum character of the grapes. Adding Nebbiolo makes the color slightly brighter, but the wine has tannins and suppleness. It is aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels from Tronçais, with a gentle attack, and I think you can enjoy the aroma's lingering scent as it opens over time.
The name 'QAUGURA' is a coined term combining the traditional culture rooted in this area, Bitchu Kagura, and the Italian word 'augura' (hope). The label expresses the powerful dance of Bitchu Kagura in the taste of the wine.
