Setouchi Brewery / Takehara Campbell Early 2022 (Rosé Sparkling) 750ml

One of the flagship wines of Setouchi Brewery, this wine is made from grapes grown in our own vineyards located in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, along the Seto Inland Sea.

Campbell Early is a variety that can be considered a native species, cultivated in this land since the Meiji period. Even now, in the region, ancient Campbell vines over 100 years old are carefully preserved. The area in Takehara where grapes are grown is at the mouth of the Kamo River, which flows into the Seto Inland Sea. In some places, when you dig into the ground, seawater seeps out, creating a harsh environment for grapes.

"We started making this wine in 2019. There are not many wineries across the country that work with Campbell Early wine, and we struggled a lot with how to finish it so that it could be loved as a drink that complements meals."

"The personality of the grapes is characterized by their fragrant brilliance and acidity. They are originally a variety known for their vibrant aroma, but I feel that the Campbell grapes from Takehara are even more splendid compared to those from other regions. The local producers say that the reason for this might be that 'the stressful environment causes the grapes to strengthen their vitality.'"

Also, in order to produce the acidity of grapes, a temperature difference between morning and evening during the growing season is necessary, but since this is not a mountainous area, there is not such a temperature difference. Nevertheless, it is a distinctive grape with the acidity standing out as a characteristic of the variety itself. The secondary fermentation in the bottle has enhanced the aroma to the maximum as a sparkling wine with a stronger pressure.
