Kirinoka / Pegasus Hills Syrah Cuvée Kan 2024 (Red) 750ml
Regular Price ¥6,600The reason Nagano Prefecture is considered suitable for wine grape cultivation is due to its surrounding mountain ranges, which result in low rainfall. Among them, the Northern Alps, stretching north to south along the border with Gifu Prefecture, consist of mountains over 3000 meters high and act as a barrier blocking moist air and rain clouds coming from the west. The Northern Alps, beloved by climbers and skiers, are also known as the Hida Mountains, named after a flying horse. We named our carefully crafted wine from grapes grown in Ikeda Town, Azumino, and Shiojiri—some of Japan's top grape-growing regions influenced mainly by the Northern Alps—"Pegasus Hills" in respect to the Hida Mountains.
The 2024 Kan is fermented at a high temperature above 30°C after undergoing low-temperature mashing for 5 days before fermentation. The mash is stirred 2 to 3 times a day to extract color and flavor. It was bottled after aging for 6 months in new French oak barrels. It features rich fruit flavors that can be enjoyed early and aromas reminiscent of white pepper. On the other hand, it has many supple tannins, so it is expected to mature for 10 years.
