Haskap is a plant in the honeysuckle family, known in Japanese as Kuronomi Uguisukagura. It grows wild in parts of Hokkaido and the subalpine zones of Honshu in Japan. In Hokkaido, it is especially common in the Yufutsu Plain stretching west from New Chitose Airport to Tomakomai and Mukawa Town, as well as along the Pacific coasts of Hidaka and Tokachi. Globally, it is widely distributed in Siberia, China, and the Korean Peninsula, but commercial cultivation is only found in Hokkaido, Japan. It has recently become a popular specialty fruit of Hokkaido.
